A message from Earth

WeTransfer endorses and supports creative minds across the world and wanted to do so in a special way for this project. The website is responsive, immersive and interactive. It features contributions from musicians, artists, scientists and many others. It captures and displays a digital and modern take on the Golden Record of old.

It invites visitors to interact and contribute to the story in their own way – chatting with sound waves from stars, making a soundscape, and the ability to donate to SETI and the Carl Sagan Institute to support further exploration of the great unknown.

Experience Direction

We wanted visitors to experience the brilliance of the artists and wondrous curiosity the Golden Record evokes. To feel the inspiration of limitless human exploration. Using digital storytelling to create tangible human interactions facilitating a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Voyager 2 and Golden Record Launch.

We began with our story structure and a few assets from our artists while brainstorming how to use the most cutting edge web technology to build interactive digital modules, audio experimentation, interplay between objects onscreen and lots of animation.

Wireframes

I did rapid sketching and wireframe prototypes with our engineering and design teams to find form and function simultaneously. The clickable prototype helped the client and creative teams understand the atomic/modular approach of the interactive modules and allowed us to use them as a map to assemble pages.

Interaction Design

I collaborated through rapid sketching and wireframe prototypes with our engineering and design teams to find form and function simultaneously. The clickable prototype helped the client and creative teams understand the atomic/modular approach of the interactive modules and allowed us to use them as a map to assemble pages.

Prototyping

Because this project was on a time crunch, with multiple companies and several artists – I prototyped the layout, navigation, and interaction design references using Keynote so that it fit into all of our strategic planning docs and streamlined the approval process. Keynote FTW!

Results

The WeTransfer clients were extremely pleased with the work and submitted for several awards. We were fortunate enough to win a Webby award, D&AD as well as a Bronze for interactive from One Club.
